Kinja'd!!!1 Kinja'd!!! 1

Don’t bother going to see it... 2

(Some spoilers below, if you for some reason want to see this garbage)

Kinja'd!!!

The movie has Land Rovers, that’s about it.

(Full disclosure, I was guilt tripped into seeing this movie with my family. They paid for my ticket and bought me a refillable popcorn and diet coke, both of which I consumed far too much of.)

The original Now You See Me was a mediocre movie at best, which had a pretty terrible ending. Now You See Me 2 took that ending and made into an entire movie. The beginning of the movie is silly, but somewhat enjoyable. Lizzy Caplan’s character at least draws attention away from Jesse Eisenberg’s insufferable reprisal of Atlas.

I can pinpoint the exact moment the movie turned from “meh” to “groan-worthy”. The moment when Woody Harrelson’s “twin” also played by Woody Harrelson showed up was when it really sank in that the movie was going to be awful. The shot composition of the two “talking to each other” was always straight out of a high school media tech project, and very kitschy. Why Woody Harrelson, why?

But Harrelson is not the lone recognizable actor in the film. They managed to get Daniel Radcliffe to join Mark Rufallo, Michael Caine, and Morgan Freeman in this disaster.

I usually like Daniel Radcliffe, but he’s just obnoxious in this movie. Look at that stupid face.

The McGuffin in the movie is an all powerful computer chip, which can defeat any firewalls or encryption. Yeah, and it just so happens to be the exact size of a playing card, who’d of guessed? It’s completely inconsequential to the plot even if it’s supposed to be. Really it’s just a way to throw bad card trick CGI into the movie.

Speaking of which, there are some truly terrible effects in the movie. The worst of which being when a motorcycle crashes into a Land Rover and both explode for no discernible reason.

Every time the movie starts to set up a reveal, it immediately becomes very obvious. I may be a genius, but it certainly doesn’t take one to see the plot twists coming. The final trick is so poorly telegraphed that it ruined the final reveal. The whole thing just becomes needlessly convoluted and makes the entire plot seem irrelevant.

So, yeah, there’s a reason the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Despite “only” being a little over 2 hours long, this movie feels closer to 3. I’d avoid this movie.

Kinja'd!!!1

I enjoyed the first one in that I saw it on HBO in a hotel in a crappy town when I was traveling for work with nothing better to do and nothing better to watch so it kept me entertained long enough to make it to bedtime and make going to sleep quite easy.
